CouranteCourante, an ensemble of concert harp, recorders, classical guitar and voices, presents a colorful program of mostly 16th and 17th century instrumentals, songs and ballads from across the nations of Europe to the New World. The group often dresses in period costumes, and plays in candlelight, giving the audience a clear impression of living performers of 400-500 years ago, the high Renaissance and early Baroque periods.
Courante as a program is an excellent way to introduce novices to the tuneful melodies and beautiful harmonies of early music. Each musical selection is preceded by a short lively description of its country of origin, the story it tells, and the approximate year of its composition. The piece is then delivered with feeling and verve all together to make for a memorable and inspirational showcase of international early musical culture. |
